"Diversity, Equity and Inclusion" is an After Thought.
Being an ally in anti-oppression work means ongoing education and actionable steps we can take as individuals, and as a small business to dismantle white supremacy. Divergent Dog Behavior Consulting is committed to creating a community where all voices are valued; where discomfort is welcomed & calling out racist, sexist, transphobic, homophobic, ableist, etc comments is normalized. No one is expected to know everything, but we are expected to acknowledge our transgressions & understand the systems that allot us the privilege of ignorance. Divergent Dog Behavior Consulting has a non-negotiable Community Agreement for all platforms & is included in client contracts. Failure to comply will result in termination of services. |
Divergent Dog Behavior Commitment to Anti-Oppression Work
1) I am going to be unrelenting in questioning the dog training organizations inaction. Where is the anti-racism education for their board members? Where are the accessibility educators at conferences? When will anti-oppression education be a continuing education requirement? Where are their Black, Indigenous, and Racialized board members? These organizations stepped into a leadership position - lead.
2) At a minimum, I will pay for anti-oppression education quarterly.
3) I am going to allot 30% of my budget to getting my supplies from businesses owned by Black, Indigenous, and Racialized people over the next 3 years (10% increase per year). This does NOT include money spent on education.
4) I am employing a non-negotiable Community Agreement for all my social media platforms.
5) I am adding a anti-oppression statement to all client contracts that stipulates termination if I see bigoted behavior anytime, anyplace. I do not work with bigots.
6) I took the Small Business Anti-Racism Pledge (linked below).
7) I am allocating 20% of my social media feed to amplifying Black, Indigenous, and Racialized voices.
8) I am going to hire BIPOC trainers as guest speakers for my courses, to diversify the education my clients receive.
9) I am going to pay Black, Indigenous, and Racialized trainers to take over my social media for a day, to diversify the education my followers receive.
10) I am going to grow & change this list as I become more educated.
